The story behind D3 IT Solutions.

Why a studio that could have chased every platform chose to go deep on two instead — and what that means for the merchants who hire it.

Dilip Mehta

Founded D3 IT Solutions and still does the scoping, the platform decisions, and the final review on everything that ships.

Most development studios answer the question "what do you work with?" by listing everything. Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, custom builds, whatever the enquiry happens to mention. It reads as capability. In practice it usually means a team that has shipped one project on each and mastered none.

D3 IT Solutions was started on the opposite bet: pick two platforms, learn them properly, and turn down the work that falls outside them.

Why e-commerce, and why only e-commerce

E-commerce is unusual among software problems in that the client can measure you precisely. A slow product page has a conversion rate attached to it. A broken checkout has a number. There is no hiding behind a redesign that "feels more modern" — the store either sells more or it does not.

That accountability is the appeal. It rewards the kind of development that holds up months after launch rather than the kind that photographs well on a portfolio page.

Why Shopify and Shopline

Between them, these two cover most of the markets our clients actually sell into — established storefronts on one side, and stores expanding across Southeast Asia on the other. Knowing both properly means being able to recommend the platform that fits the business, rather than the one the studio happens to know.

Going deep also changes what is possible. When you know a platform's API standards, its release cycle, and where it tends to break, you stop rebuilding things it already does well and start solving the parts that are genuinely specific to a client's business. Most of the custom app work we take on exists because a merchant has a workflow no template anticipated — and recognising that quickly is a function of having seen the platform's limits before.

Keep the team small enough that the person writing the code is the person you talk to.

The rule the studio is built around

The line above is the reason D3 has stayed deliberately small. Growth in this industry usually means adding a layer between the client and the developer — account managers, project leads, a ticketing queue. Each layer makes the business easier to scale and the work harder to get right, because the person who understands the store is no longer the person hearing the problem.

Staying small keeps that link intact. It costs us the projects that need a fifty-person agency, and it means every brief gets reviewed by someone who will be personally responsible for the outcome.

How a project actually runs

Every engagement starts with a conversation about what the store or app needs to do — not a pitch deck. Some of those conversations end with us saying the work is not a fit, or that the client does not need what they think they need. That is a reasonable outcome, and a cheaper one for everybody than discovering it three weeks into a build.

From there: scope it honestly, build it with regular check-ins rather than a silent black box, test it properly before it goes live, and stay on afterwards. That last part is where most of the difference shows up. Platforms change, themes drift out of date, and integrations break quietly. A store that nobody maintains is a store that degrades on a schedule.

What this means if you are hiring us

You get a small team that has seen your platform's failure modes before, a direct line to the people writing the code, and an honest answer about whether a piece of work is worth doing. You do not get a studio that will claim expertise in a platform it has touched twice.
